Well that’s the first month of 2021 down! Got to say it’s not looking much better than 2020. January was a month for me, and I am glad it’s over! Today I bring you my wrap up of the month so let’s jump on into it.
Life
Life, as I said, was stressful. I finally finished my college applications so that was a relief. My quarter in school ended last week which is always a stressful time. But I started a book tube channel which has been a dream and goal of mine for years! All in all, January was pretty stressful and I’m looking forward to easier times (hopefully) in the future.
Reading
January was a pretty average reading month for me. I read 6 books, one I technically finished on February 1 but I’m still counting it.
- Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

My rating: 4.5/5 stars
Will this series ever not blow my mind? Most of you know that I read Illuminae back in spring of 2020 and it was one of my favorites of the year. I put off reading Gemina for months worried that it would not live up. Now, granted, it was not quite as good as Illuminae, but Gemina was still AMAZING. If you are sleeping on this series, go read them right now!!!
2. The One by Kiera Cass

My rating: 4/5 stars
Melanie and I finished off our buddy reread of The Selection series with The One! I was sad to leave this series for now, but not for long. Now we are diving into the companion books about America’s daughter. I love this world so much! This is just my comfort series without a doubt and I reread it alllll the time. Which is why I also started writing my own selection story! You can start reading it on Wattpad here.
3. Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton

My rating: 3.75/5 stars
This book was nothing deep, but it was so fun to read! I loved all the drama and the ballet scenes. There wasn’t much of a plot beyond the sabotaging, but I enjoyed it all the same. I read this one mostly to watch the show, but I am so glad I did! As well as just being fun, it does cover a lot of important topics and issues with ballet.
4. The Guinevere Deception

My rating: 5/5 stars
This one was my favorite of the month and one that will be living in my mind for a while. I absolutely loved it! I ordered the sequel before I even finished this one and it cannot get here fast enough. The writing of this one was so beautiful. I need to read everything that Kiersten White has written because of the two of her books I have read, I absolutely adored them both.
5. Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan

My rating: 3/5 stars
I read this one by audiobook which was fun. I rated it a bit lower only because I feel it falls into the sequel slump for me. It was a fun read and I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t profound and I felt that it was mostly set up for the big finale in the last book. This happens a lot with me and trilogies. I still can’t wait to continue my reread with The Serpent’s Shadow!
6. Fable by Adrienne Young

My rating: 4.5/5 stars (rounded down)
Everyone has been talking about this book since it came out and for good reason! I read this one by audiobook and all I wanted to do was listen to it all the time! The vibes were immaculate and the romance was too cute!!! I just loved this one so much and I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel!
Writing
I wrote a lot this month, but not of Black Emerald. I started working on a new story set in the world of the Selection (you can read it on Wattpad here) with a f/f romance. I wrote ten chapters and almost 12K words in just over a week. Can you tell I’m excited about this one? Unfortunately, I wrote almost nothing of Black Emerald but I think it was a break I needed. I am excited to dive back into that world and the characters in February.

Oh, I was pretty obsessed with The Selection series as well. I read them all in a few days and then went for the extras about America’s daughter and then all the Novella’s as well. I just couldn’t get enough which was amazing considering I really didn’t expect to like it when I started it!
